Acute Inpatient

Acute Inpatient care

When little things build up over time, a crisis develops. This can look like suicidal urges, self harm, suicide attempt, homicidal violence/threats, intoxication of a substance, mania, psychotic episodes, or other unmanageable symptoms in which you are concerned for your immediate safety. This can happen to anyone. We’re here to destigmatize the process and help you get solutions for you and your loved one.

The most important next steps are to have an urgent formal evaluation with a licensed medical provider and a place for safety. Our acute unit  serves to protect your safety and set a foundation for stability. Acute care may range anywhere from 3 -14 days depending on severity of symptoms and response to treatment.  Acute care involves medical intervention (pharmaceutical med management or detoxification support), suicide risk intervention, safety planning, group support, and basic skill building.

Acute care can sound scary for some, but our treatment team is committed to making sure you are informed and prepared for each step. Family involvement is critical in this process as the support system is a key marker in one’s ability to make lasting progress. It also helps to reduce the fear and isolation that can come with mental illness. Your informed consent and dignity as a human being are important to us. This is where we end the cycles of relapse, rehospitalization, or repeating suicide behaviors, and find your path to recovery once and for all. You matter, and it’s our job to remind you of that with each interaction, treatment plan, and at each level of care.

Step Down Approach

Safety and longevity are priorities at Solstice. Lifelong change doesn’t happen overnight or even after 2 weeks. Once acute stabilization occurs and a patient discharges, Solstice helps build upon the foundation with layered interventions immediately following. Outpatient programs help to solidify the safety and skills necessary to heal. These step-downs are all provided under the same roof with continuity of care among the providers. This is important for your transitions to be smooth and to keep your momentum strong.

We are committed to your recovery. Are you willing to get the help you need?

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Whether you have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, addiction, or other mood disorders, your diagnosis does not have to run your life. There are practical and attainable ways to become more functional and feel more stable. Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a tool that helps you to stabilize more rapidly and break through the stigma. PHP is an appropriate treatment option for anyone who feels like their symptoms are becoming increasingly frustrating, debilitating, overwhelming, or are interfering with their ability to work, participate in school, or function in relationships. It is an evidence-based program that helps you or your loved one develop the skills and support needed to thrive again.

What Does PHP Involve?

PHP is a bundled service, meaning that you receive an array of services under the umbrella of 1 program under 1 roof. PHP is also a commitment to your life and your health. It is a time in your life where you decide “I am ready for change in my life” and “I deserve to have a higher quality of life”. Because of this, PHP is also a time commitment. It is 8 hours per day, 5 days per week for 5-6 weeks.

The program includes:

  • Weekly Psychiatry Appointments - for medication management
  • Weekly Nutritional Assessments/Care Planning
  • Weekly Individual Coaching Focused on Coping Skills, Quality of Life and Stress Relief - this involves case management to help you gain self awareness, coping skills, self care skills, and other life skills that help you become more functional and regulated.
  • Biweekly Family Care - involves your support system with communication skills, setting boundaries, setting structure in the home together and other life skills that support mood.
  • Hourly Group Therapy and Education - this is one of  the most therapeutic aspects of care as it gives you a social outlet, helps you learn and apply in a group setting, and is especially helpful when you tend to isolate when  you are struggling.
  • Labs upon Admission
  • Resourcing for Other Medical, Social or Emotional Needs - this will be especially helpful if you have any other medical conditions that need to be addressed.

Why PHP?

It is important to give your body and your mind the time it needs to fully heal. Just as you would take time off from work or school to recover from surgery - your brain needs this time away to get the care it needs to truly heal. We often overlook or do not recognize our mind as needing this - but just as one should not walk on a broken leg, one should not try to go through life when their mind or mood needs care. A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is specifically designed for the active treatment of mental disorders. In 8 hours a day, you will treat your thought disorder, depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, and other conditions, one millimeter at a time. Our integrative team assists you in taking the steps you are ready for while also developing the skills you need to scale your healing journey without leaving parts of yourself behind.

This program gives you a hybrid approach to care…. While it is 8 hours each week-day, you will still have the opportunity to practice your skills at home or in your real-life circumstances. Because your environment is key to your mood state, you must have a strong support network of friends and/or family members who are deeply invested in your healing journey.

Additionally, PHP is skills and strengths-based. It helps you set practical goals and meet them using your strengths. It also gives you an arsenal of coping skills that are tailored to your symptoms and frustration. This is an effective tool to help you overcome your barriers in depression, anxiety, addiction, mood swings, or behavioral struggles.

It is a powerful message you give yourself when you decide to commit to your health and wellness full-time….what better way to communicate self love and self care?

The idea is do this one with your whole body and mind engaged and you will never need a program of this intensity again!

What About All of My Other Obligations?

Committing to your health takes time and attention. There are times when we need to reduce distractions that get in the way with our healing. This can be medical leave from your work or school, applying for disability, or delegating help for your typical duties from which you need a break. Our clinicians can walk through your options based on your obstacles or concerns. And we will assist in your integration back to your duties when you are ready to take on more. The bottom line is that PHP is a temporary interruption in your life to help you approach your schedule, relationships, and your health in refreshed ways. In the grand scheme of life, 6 weeks is a blip. Your life, your future, and your happiness are worth the investment.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Grief, depression, panic, substance abuse, or any other mental health condition can leave us feeling hopeless, isolated, and maybe even suicidal. Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is another tool available to regain functionality and stability. IOP is an appropriate stage of care for those who have achieved some stability in their overall symptoms, but need continued assistance with applying their skills in their real-world scenarios. IOP is typically initiated after someone has completed residential, PHP, or another higher level of care. IOP is customized care to help you integrate your tools outside of the treatment facility so that you are set up for success after you discharge. If you ever have questions about your eligibility for IOP versus other levels of care, a medical assessment with one of our licensed clinicians can help us find a treatment plan that is suitable for your specific needs.

What Does IOP Involve?

IOP has 2 types depending on how much care you need. When you initially start IOP, you will attend 5 days per week for ~4 hours per day, and then level up to 3 days per week for the same duration of time. This whole process takes approximately 5-6 weeks in total, depending on your ability to meet set goals. IOP is a bundled service that includes the following services

  • Biweekly Psychiatry Appointment
  • Biweekly Nutritional Assessments/Care Planning
  • Biweekly Individual Coaching Focused on Coping Skills, Quality of Life and Stress Relief - this involves case management to help you gain self awareness, coping skills, self care skills, and other life skills that help you become more functional and regulated.
  • Monthly Family Care - involves your support system with communication skills, setting boundaries, setting structure in the home together and other life skills that support mood.
  • Hourly Group Therapy and Education - this is one of  the most therapeutic aspects of care as it gives you a social outlet, helps you learn and apply in a group setting, and is especially helpful when you tend to isolate when  you are struggling.
  • Lab Monitoring
  • Resourcing for Other Medical, Social or Emotional Needs - this will be especially helpful if you have any other medical conditions that need to be addressed.

Why IOP?

After some time in PHP, giving your mind the appropriate time to start healing, we begin to integrate you back into life. We refer to this as “leveling up” to IOP. Just as one does not start sprinting right after removing their leg cast, we take slow steps to allow the fresh healing to stick. It can be easy to want to get ahead of yourself as you start to feel better - but we don't want any injuries as a result of getting back into the game of life too soon. This is why individuals start in PHP first and work their way to IOP. Healing is faster when we devote the appropriate time to our treatment. So, as you stabilize, your time at clinic goes down, and your time at home/work/school increases; this allows you to practically apply your skills that you learn in treatment. In just 4 hours a day, 3-5 days per week, you will continue to heal and strengthen your mind. Our integrative team is here to support you as you integrate back into life with a new outlook, set of skills, and sense of stability.

Because IOP is much less time spent in a medical + clinical setting, you must have a solid support network of friends and family, a strong routine, self-efficacy, and knowledge of skills to help you maintain your healed mind for the long-run. It’s hard for the changes we make to stick but when they are made in community, you give yourself a chance to practice new routines.

Illness is not resolved overnight, decide now if you will commit to your health so you can have relief from debilitating and inconvenient symptoms.

What About All of My Other Obligations?

IOP care involves less time in our Irving clinic compared to PHP or acute care, so this is a helpful time for you to integrate back into your life safely and intentionally. IOP is a critical step for maintaining the progress you’ve made and meeting your long-term goals. For some, IOP involves part-time integration in work, school, or other accommodations to facilitate ease of transition. This will be customized according to your duties and scheduling.

Even though re-integration occurs in IOP, it is still important to reduce unnecessary distraction in your treatment process. IOP is a time investment in your health and wellness, so we do not want to waste this opportunity for you. Our clinical team can help you figure out what needs to wait and what you can start again, based on your symptoms and progress.

We have a care team ready to assist and work with you, are you ready to get started?

Outpatient Care

Outpatient Care

In addition to programs and workshops, we have by-appointment options for medication management, individual therapy/counseling, and family therapy. When you are getting started, these appointments can help triage your needs and help us determine what services may be available and appropriate for you.

Our clinicians are licensed with extensive mental health experience. We offer evidence-based, results-driven therapies and treatments for a wide range of mental health disorders with comorbid conditions such as TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), ADHD, Chronic Pain, Grief Disorder, or PTSD. We see you as a whole person with valid needs and fears. Let’s partner to help you overcome your obstacles and help you achieve your goals. Relief looks like an informed, compassionate approach to your healthcare.

Medication Approach

Medication management can be a very useful tool to help stabilize mood, sleep, focus, or cravings. In principle, our medical providers take a very conservative approach with prescription medications. Following the principles of Integrative Medicine, we strongly believe in the body’s innate ability to heal itself, it just needs the right tools in place. This means that we are not afraid of using prescription medications when it makes sense, but that it may not need to be part of the long-term solution. With the right lifestyle adjustments (sleep, exercise, screen habits, sobriety), therapeutic skills, nutrition support, and other interventions, the need for medication may decline.

We also pride ourselves in using new and up-to-date medication options to optimize relief with minimal side effects. Psychiatry is an art when it comes to determining which medication may be a good fit for you, and having a clinician who knows which meds (old or new) may interact in your system is very valuable in your healing process.

Our goal with medication is to help you feel like your symptoms are more manageable and less debilitating. It is not to make you feel numb, sedated, or like you have a false sense of happiness. We want your personality and best self to shine, and with the right combination of therapies, we can help you get there.

Our medical providers also will integrate micronutrient or supplement therapies when indicated. This will depend on your profile of symptoms in addition to the severity of your condition. When appropriate, supplements and herbs can be extremely useful and effective. Getting an evaluation with one of our medical providers will help us see what will be a good fit for you to help you feel your best.

Therapy Methodologies

Our therapy model is holistic and integrative in nature. Our clinicians apply a combination of CBT, DBT, and Trauma-Informed skills to help address your mood and relationships. To find relief, it’s important not only to have a safe place to process your emotions but also to have practical skills to address the discomfort. Skills to challenge negative thoughts, to cope with overwhelming emotions or urges (whether in addiction or with feeling suicidal), communication skills to work through conflict, or mindfulness skills to improve your insight. Our clinicians take a compassionate yet action-based approach to help you feel less stuck in the hopelessness and helplessness that can take over.

Committing to therapy takes work and emotional effort but can transform your perspective, your mood, and your relationships.  Let’s get started.

Military or Veteran Treatment

Getting Care as a Veteran or in Active Duty

Mental health treatment is crucial for the veteran and military population.  When we consider the national need for military veterans, the need for quality care is evident. A study from the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry in 2021 revealed that nearly two-thirds of veterans who had suicidal ideation were not receiving mental health treatment. This study also estimated that veterans in their lifetime were highly likely to either plan or attempt suicide. This same study determined that the diagnoses correlated with suicidality were: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), PTSD, Alcoholism, Age, and a history of adverse child experiences.

Increasing access is essential to help provide solutions to these unfortunate statistics. Solstice seeks to honor and serve our military population through crisis intervention support, family support, and substance abuse treatment for the military population.

Military Day Treatment

The Military  Day Treatment Program is an integrative model that focuses on stabilizing suicidal ideation, substance dependence, and any debilitating mood symptoms that interfere with basic functioning. This service provides a cross-disciplinary approach with an array of providers assisting in the recovery of each individual. The Day Treatment Program specifically consists of the following services:

  • Group therapy - peer support and engagement
  • Medication management with psychiatry provider weekly
  • One-on-one Case Management and coaching weekly
  • One-on-one nutrition care weekly
  • Family Case Management biweekly

Also included in this Day Treatment Program:

  • Baseline mental health screening for risk
  • Education on suicide risk and prevention to families and communities
  • Assistance with obtaining and coordinating other benefits provided by the federal government, a state or local government, or an eligible entity. Our staff ensures benefit assistance begins in week one of care.
  • Assistance with emergent needs relating to health care services.

The Day Treatment Program is an intensive but effective treatment to help build self-efficacy and life skills. These are essential skills that help reduce suicide behaviors, addiction/relapse, and debilitating mood symptoms. Rather than feel stuck in overwhelming emotions or cravings, practical skills help the individual to cope, meet their basic needs, seek support, and live less in a scarce, isolated mindset. Group support is one of the most important aspects of treatment as isolation poses a significant threat to recovery in military veterans.

Depression and trauma promote isolation, and the isolation further the symptoms. It is a cycle that requires interruption with honest, and safe peer support.Veterans also benefit from veteran-specific community building which  is provided in this program.

Further, the Day Treatment Program strongly incorporates the value of structure and routine to support mental illness for individuals and families. Mood disorder interrupts routine and ultimately decreases a person’s ability to function in society, at home, and in relationships. Case Management helps to regain these functions. This is especially critical in the veteran population due to the dramatic shifts in schedules from standard duties, deployment duties, and even civilian duties.

Brain Treatment

Whether in active duty or retired veteran communities we see a prevalence of addiction, PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and even TBI (traumatic brain injury). Whichever condition you identify with, you may be a candidate for our Brain Treatment (MeRT, a customized version of TMS) to help stabilize your symptoms more quickly and effectively. MeRT/TMS is a very helpful tool in regulating the brain’s “fight or flight” response that interferes with our daily functioning. It also helps restore cognition, focus, sleep, motivation, and reduce the depression fog. See more on our MeRT page.

MeRT/TMS is Medicare and Tricare-approved. We are also in-network with a variety of other insurance providers. Verify your insurance and we can see what treatment options may be a good fit for you.

Geriatric Treatment

Geriatric Treatment

Depression is the most common psychological illness among the geriatric population? Despite this unfortunate truth, Solstice has solutions for you and your family. Although pharmaceuticals can help with your depression or anxiety symptoms, we want to create a space for you for listening and building community. Geriatric care is less about age and illness, and more about honoring those who create legacy and life. There is hope for your depression. Having structure, social support, and a place to go to each age are the beginning of finding relief. The family also plays a critical role to give everyone tools for wellness and rest.

Options for You

Depending on your struggles and symptoms, there are various options that we can offer. Geriatric Day Treatment is an effective option that helps provide daily structure that is easily lost after retirement or grief and loss. This treatment is Medicare-approved and includes the following services:

  • Case Management / Coaching
  • Group Support and Skill Building
  • Psychiatry
  • Nutritional Care
  • Family Care
  • Art Activities

Day Treatment is also beneficial for the behavioral and psychological treatment of dementia. Brain-friendly engaging activities, lifestyle support, and family support are important for comfort and relief.

Our brain treatment (MeRT/TMS) is another tool that can be integrated with medication management or Day Treatment to help optimize brain function and decrease symptoms of depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, or fatigue.

A comprehensive and holistic approach is required to assess and treat all of the associated symptoms. Our treatment team is ready to meet with you and your family to see what will be the best fit for you.

Adolescent Treatment

Getting Care for your Adolescent Loved One

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been progressive rise in suicide attempt among the adolescent population. We are in tune with the effects of worldwide fear, quarantine and isolation, and disruption of routine on youth. Getting care for minors requires establishing strong structure, reinforcements, emotion regulation skills, healthy screen habits, and care for parents/guardians.

Our clinicians are proficient in adolescent care for both skill-building and medication management. Recovery is possible with the commitment to change - for both the patient and the loved ones involved.

Day treatment in PHP is one of our evidence-based approaches to help regain stability efficiently. Minors respond rapidly to routine, structure, and predictability. Combined with integrative medication management and Solstice academy, we can help restore social skills, coping skills, and other life skills that impact our ability to function independently.

These are impressionable times. This is the time to intervene. Your family deserves more. Verify your insurance to see how we can customize your care plan.
